The honeymoon is over, Ethan Crumbley’s parents get separate trials
Almost two years ago to the day, a then 15-year Ethan Crumbley shot and killed four students at Oxford High School in Michigan. The gun he used was bought for him by his gun-loving parents. Ethan Crumbley was convicted of four counts of murder and is set to be sentenced later this year. He is eligible for a sentence of life without parole. His parents, James and Jennifer Crumbley, were charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter for providing Ethan with the gun used in the killings. You can read about some of the finer details here.
Back in October, the Crumbleys had their request to attend their son’s sentencing denied. Their trial is set to begin in late January.
Also, back in October, the Crumbleys claimed their son never asked them for mental health treatment, even though Ethan told a friend he did. If you’ll recall, Ethan claims his father told him to suck it up. It’s difficult to tell who can possibly be telling the truth in this situation, since everyone involved is reprehensible. The Crumbleys claim they had no reason to believe their son was mentally ill. I find that hard to believe since the severed head of a bird was found in a jar in Ethan’s bedroom. That’s not just a sign of mental illness, but a flashing red neon sign.
Then in late October, prosecutors made it known that Jennifer Crumbley was allegedly overheard in jail blaming her husband for the shooting. One of their attorneys accused the prosecutors of trying to drive a rift between the Crumbleys, but they could not be more united.
They are so united, in fact, that they were both granted separate trials earlier this month. It’s been reported that witnesses from Florida have come forward with evidence that could be harmful to one of, or both of, the Crumbleys. It’s not known who the witnesses are in relation to the Crumbleys or what information they provided to investigators.
I guess now it’s a waiting game to see if one of them cuts a deal with prosecutors before the trials start. Reportedly, the Crumbleys were already having marital issues before the shooting happened. I doubt it would take much for one of them to turn on the other. The question is which one of them will it be? My money is on Jennifer Crumbley. She seems like the self-preservation type, plus she wasn’t the one who physically purchased the gun. Or maybe she’ll go to trial in the hopes her beloved Trump will be elected president again, and she’ll be pardoned. She did say that he could grab her by the lady parts anytime he wanted. I wish I was making that up.
