NY man indicted for using Omegle to traffic teen
Every time I post a story about Omegle, I feel the need to have to explain what Omegle is, since it’s not exactly mainstream. Today, I’m letting ChatGPT handle the description.
According to ChatGPT, Omegle is a free online video chat website that was created in 2009. The site pairs users randomly, and they can chat with each other without revealing their real names or personal information. Omegle has been known for its random and often unpredictable interactions, which can range from casual conversations to more explicit or inappropriate content, leading to concerns about online safety.
What ChatGPT doesn’t tell you is there is no age verification on Omegle. The only thing remotely even close to an age check is a small amount of text that says, YOU MUST BE 18 OR OLDER TO USE OMEGLE. That’s it. That’s not going to discourage anyone from using the website.
Speaking of websites, that’s another thing I like to hammer home. Omegle is not an app, it’s a website. That means all anyone needs to access it is an internet enabled device with a webcam.
Normally, when I’m posting about Omegle, I’m usually talking about online predators. However, in this post I’ll be talking about a different kind of predator, the human trafficker.
33-year-old Javesh Persaud of Shirley, New York on Long Island, has been indicted for allegedly prostituting an 18-year-old homeless girl he met on Omegle. Don’t let the girl’s age make this story seem any less tragic than if she was underage. Victims of sex trafficking are often either threatened with violence or have violence taken out on them on a regular basis. In addition to that, many pimps and traffickers will get their victims dependent on drugs to make them ‘compliant’.
That’s not even taking into account that the victims are being sexually assaulted by creepy men for money.
Lastly, this is where the real recruiting of sex-trafficking victims happens, social media. This is where real grooming happens. Where it’s not happening is through a conspiracy-born Satanic cult of elites or that bullshit Sound of Freedom movie.
