Combination to gun safe in Oxford High shooter’s home was ‘000’
I’m still working on my backlog of school shooting news, which today takes us back to Oxford, Michigan. If you’ll recall, 15-year-old Ethan Crumbley shot and killed 16-year-old Tate Myre, 14-year-old Hana St. Juliana, 17-year-old Madisyn Baldwin, and 17-year-old Justin Shilling in November 2021 at Oxford High School. The gun Crumbley used was purchased by his parents as a gift to their son. In October of last year, Ethan Crumbley pleaded guilty to four counts of first-degree murder and terrorism causing death, seven counts of assault with intent to murder, and 12 counts of possessing a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Last week, a judge ordered a potential sentencing hearing for Ethan Crumbley on June 2nd. It’s known as a Miller hearing, which is a court proceeding that occurs when a juvenile offender is facing a sentence of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
During a Miller hearing, the court considers factors such as the offender’s age, the nature and circumstances of the offense, and the offender’s maturity, intellectual capacity, and capacity for rehabilitation. With that in mind, I, personally, don’t see Ethan Crumbley getting anything less than life without parole.
Also, last week, Ethan Crumbley’s parents, James and Jennifer Crumbley, were ordered to stand trial for four counts of involuntary manslaughter. As a result of that ruling, some additional information about the day of the shooting was released.
The media seems to be making a big deal over Ethan Crumbley sending a text message of ‘I love you’ to his mom before committing mass murder. What, I think, is more important is what Jennifer Crumbley texted to Ethan after the teacher’s meeting when the Crumbley’s were presented with Ethan’s disturbing drawings. That text message? “LOL, I’m not mad at you. You have to learn not to get caught.”

But getting back to Mr. and Mrs. Crumbley being ordered to stand trial. The Crumbleys were appealing the charges by claiming the gun Ethan used was secured. Well, it turns out nothing could be further from the truth, allegedly.
The gun safe in the Crumbley’s home is said to have had a combination of ‘000’. I have to wonder if the safe’s default combo was 000 or did one of the Crumbley’s go through the process of changing the combination to 000. Either way, it’s a dumbass move.

To make matters worse, investigators claim they also found that all the gun locks in the home were still in their packaging.
