A bullet in the bathroom stops school shooting

Come with me and step into the Real Crime time machine as we travel back to April of this year. On April 3rd, of this year, a 9mm bullet was found on the floor of a bathroom in West Geauga High School, in Northeast, Ohio. An observant student found the bullet, and notified the school’s resource officer.

School faculty reviewed the security footage of students going in and out of the bathroom from around the time the bullet was found. Around 20 students were interviewed, but it was 18-year-old Brandon Morrissette, who was determined to be the alleged suspect.

Morrissette was found to have an unloaded Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun in his backpack. There you go, gun nerds. But along with the gun were 3 fully loaded magazines.

While some may think Morrissette was just a patriotic student protesting gun free school zones, he admitted to plotting a school shooting that day. Morrissette told police he was going to open fire in the school library because that’s where the most students would be.

Now it’s time for the beating a dead horse section of the post. I wouldn’t be surprised if Morrissette is a columbiner. Again, that’s someone who has sympathy or adulation for the Columbine shooters. The Columbine shooters killed multiple students in the library of the school. Morrissette was negative 6-years-old when Columbine happened.

Another influence may have been a school shooting that took place 11 years ago, but only 11 miles away from West Geauga High School. In 2012, three students of Chardon High school were shot and killed by TJ Lane. Lane is possibly the most unrepentant school shooter of them all. At his sentencing, not only did Lane flip off the court, but he also hurled obscenities at the victims’ families. I have no doubt Morrissette knows of this shooting.

But getting back to Morrissette, no motive has been made public as far as I can tell.

Morrissette has been ordered held without bond and has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

Police haven’t said where Morrissette got the gun from, but wherever he got it from, he didn’t get it legally. In Ohio, you have to be 21-years-old to legally purchase a handgun.

In May, Morrissette was indicted on the felony charges of attempted aggravated murder, possession of a deadly weapon and inducing panic.

It’s more than a little chilling to think that if this cretin didn’t drop one of his bullets, we’d be discussing a more tragic story.
